A Compendium of Curiosities 2 - Challenge No. 3 - Marbled Stains

I'm following the challenges being set by the lovely Linda
on her blog Studio L3 working from Tim Holtz' new book
A Compendium of Curiosities Volume II.

I must own up to missing the second challenge as I
didn't have two of the products used - I know I could
have improvised, but opted out
(sorry again Terry - lol!!)

To my utter dismay for this third challenge again I didn't have
the main ingredient - Picket Fence Distress Stain.
I wasn't going to let that stop me this week though!
I chose the lightest shade of Distress Stain I had - being
Spun Sugar - and using the technique on page 46
of Tim's Holtz' book created my own 'Marble Stains' effect
as shown on the tag in the photo above.

I don't think I really achieved the marble look,
but it's quite a nice background nevertheless.

I made it into an Artist's Trading Card

The figure is moulded in air dry clay
modelled on my own fair figure - well, it could have been!
It's actually from Krafty Lady Art Moulds.
I stamped the word 'Belle' and edged the card
with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

This week's challenge is sponsored by
who are generously offering a $25 gift certificate
 to one lucky participant.

You've got to be in it to win it -
now where have I heard that before!

Shabby Chic Mini Book - pages for March and April

These are my pages for the challenge being hosted by Renee
over on The Artists' Nest Ning site.

March

The theme was 'flowers'.
I kept this page entirely fabric - apart from the card base.
All the pages measure (approx) 3" x 5".
I used Sizzix/Alterations dies -
flower (Tattered Florals)
picket fence (On the Fence)

Here's what the back looked like

April

The theme was 'wings'

Again, starting with a card base, I stuck handmade paper
onto it and coloured it with Dylusions ink spray (sky blue),
then Distress Stain (dusty concord) then a liberal
spritzing of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (marshmallow).

The image was one from my stash - I coloured
it lightly with pink chalk.

The bits of trim were die cut handmade paper using
Sizzix/Alterations - vintage lace.

I die cut the wings from more of the handmade paper
using Sizzix/Alterations (Heart Wings)
and embossed them using a folder too.

Thanks for looking :)

What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday week 151

This is what my desk looked like yesterday afternoon.
I was making a card using my new
Distress markers - which fit very nicely in an empty
Ferrero Rocher tub - hopefully the markers will last
a lot longer than the chocolates did!

Along from the markers is this beautiful needlebook
which arrived yesterday

It came from
my exchange partner in a recent
swap (full details are in my previous post).

Finally, this is a carousel thingy which for several years
had been living in our bathroom.

It originally housed bottles of bath crystals
(a Christmas present from my Sister).
I decided to re-locate it to my craft room and filled
it with various ink sprays which previously were dotted
all over the place!  They're much easier to see now and maybe
I'll use them more.

I'm linking this post up to Julia's blog
where every Wednesday she invites everyone to
do just that!

Thanks for looking,  I'll be sure to come and
make a return visit to you too :)

Spring Needlebook Swap

I joined in with this swap hosted by Laurie on her fun blog

Laurie said:
"create any kind of handmade needlebook you like, as long as it includes at least 5 buttons in its design"

I had some lovely fabric which I thought would suit a needlebook

My book was very simple in it's construction - I had to dispense
with the wadding as it was too thick with it.
The fun, colourful fabric for the outside,
the black and white fabric for the lining,
and red felt for the pages.

This is the back

This is it opened out

Here are the inside pages

It was fun to make and my swap partner
has now received it.
(it seems she's forgiven me for the scruffy stitching!)

I haven't received mine yet from my swap partner
but having seen some of her beautiful work on line,
I've very excited to see what she'll send!

Thanks for hosting another great swap Laurie :)
