Compendium of Curiosities Volume III: Challenge 1

I'm so glad Linda Ledbetter on her blog
is once again setting (bi-weekly) challenges, this time
based on the latest volume of Tim Holtz book,
as it forces me to actually use the book rather than
just wistfully admiring it!

The first challenge is to try out the
technique on page 43 of the book -
"Paint Marbling".

I messed around with the technique on plain
paper (see above pic) and
on old book-keeping pages

I cut out a piece I liked and decided to use
one of my painted girls (I still have quite a few
hanging around on my desk)

I gave her some clothes using  Distress Paint.

I made it all into a card - layered it onto
a scrap of graph paper.
The flower is made from the
'Tattered Florals' Alterations/Sizzix Bigz die.

The 'Happy Birthday' is rubber stamped
onto more of the scrap graph paper.
I stitched some yellow crosses onto
the girl's neckline too.

This first challenge is being sponsored by
who are generously offering a $50 gift certificate
to one lucky winner.

Also, the main man himself Tim Holtz and Mario
are also providing some amazing prizes for
each challenge - all the details are on

Thanks for looking at my entry and I'm looking
forward to seeing what everyone else does too.

Sherry...your card is super cute! I love your marbled background and I really like the girl that you've used as your focal point of your card. She's so cute and beautifully blends into your background. Isn't it crazy what you can do with a little paint and ink, water and paper? Thanks for sharing your card with us at CC3C! <3 Candy

Such a fabulous card, Sherry. I love the colours. The hint of yellow really makes the background 'pop'. great drawing too.
To answer your question about my decorative tape, yes, I use a glue stick to make sure the masking tape sticks. It does have some adhesive, but putting it on the card to paint it removes a lot of it.
Hope you have a good weekend. J
