Compendium of Curiosities - Challenge No. 19 - Extreme Masking

The current challenge being set by Linda over on her blog Studio L3 is 'Extreme Masking' which is a technique on page 61 of Tim Holtz' fabulous book called 'Compendium of Curiosities'.

I started off making a mask using one of Tim's Alterations Sizzix dies - 'Branch Tree'.

Here's the colours of Distress Ink I used

It was quite by accident, due to not placing the negative mask in exactly the right position, that the white outline was created.  I thought this looked at bit like moon shine, so hightlighted it with some Crystal coloured stickles and coloured the moon in the same way.

In the first photo you can see the mask itself - I really like how this turned out so will be using that some time too.

Thanks for looking!

Where did you get the tree? It is perfect as well as the moon you created with the Crystal stickles.

That treet is real spooky! Love the effect (your error) has created. If I ever get to meet this Tim Holtz I'm gonna demand a signed copy of his book, the run around he is giving me trying to purchase a copy!!!

This is a beautiful moonlit tree. Isn't it wonderful how sometimes our "mistakes" are better than what we wanted to make. Happy Halloweekend...

Sherry, this masking page is great, the tree has much character and the colours you chose for the background are so earthy and rich, you have an amazing craft room with so many supplies, no wonder it's your favourite place :)

Wonderfully atmospheric, Sherry. And what a happy accident the misplacing of the mask was.

Love your card! Who would have known there were any accidents with this, it looks like it was meant to be this way:)

Sherry, I can't even find the words-- this is SO wonderful!!! The white outline around the tree looks amazing-- enchanted, in fact, which is perfect for Halloween! Whether it was a happy accident our your creative muse just pushed that mask over a tiny bit, it sure does look gorgeous. I love everything about it.

So is this something that a particularly daring Highwayman also does?
This extreme masking? (Boom boom *and a snort for luck*)
An amazing picture Sherry, the eerie glow around the tree is fantastic, I'm sure your subconscious knew it would look wunderbar. (Maybe your subconscious thinks in German? Mine definitely thinks in Pig Latin!)
You can use your tree mask for another project as well :-)
Maybe you could make a Hangman's Tree picture??!!
OK, I'm going to bed now before I need to get my coat :-)
Mwah!
